(In fact, as we look at these others ways we learn, many of them can be incorporated with relational learning and working together.) 2. This can happen through personal sharing, storytelling, debating, and brainstorming. As we work together, they learn from each other. Some of us learn well when we get to interact with others in the process. Here are the eight approaches to teaching and learning. It’s time we brought these back into our group Bible study. There are certain approaches to learning that connect with each of us and make learning and applying quite easy and natural. We can all learn using these eight approaches, but individually, we gravitate to certain ones. I propose we recapture the ways we used to learn, because we never outgrow the ways we like to learn.Įducators like Thomas Gardner and Thomas Armstrong have identified eight ways we learn. Somewhere along the way, though, we were expected to grow up, which means sitting quietly in chairs, reading a book, and listening to the teacher. In the early years of school, you drew, told stories, interacted with the other kids, and even played games as a part of learning. They equate Bible study with a misguided approach to Sunday School where someone lectures and reads to them. ![]() Unfortunately, lecture is a common method used in Bible study - as if imparting knowledge is the number one goal - and it’s the reason a lot of people write off an invitation to join a group. I suppose there’s a place for them in learning somewhere, but I don’t think group Bible study is one of them. We praise you for joining us together as one.I loathe lectures. You call us to faithful love that never fails. In your holiness and power you will make us one flesh all the days of our lives. Lord, We believe you are the author of our story and the creator of our marriage. We pray for grace and help as you make us one, that nothing and no one will break us apart. While death will separate loved ones in the end, we recognize other threats to our union even now. Lord, On this joyful day we dream of sharing a long life together. ( Ruth 1:16-17) Unite us on the same path until we see you face to face. Fill us with a deep faith in you that abides for all time. Let us embrace one another’s friends and family as our own. But where one of us is called to go, the other will go, and where one is led to stay, the other will gladly stay. May we never urge one another to turn back from you. Make us like-minded, with shared hopes, dreams, and resolve for the future. Keep us from turning aside to go our own way. “Let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith.” ( Hebrews 12:1-2) Knit our hearts together so we follow you as one. Our lives are in your hands, and we commit to follow wherever you lead. Lord, This wedding day marks the beginning of a journey you planned for each of us before time. Lead and direct us in the way we should go today, and all days. We want to serve you with all that we have. We can never offer enough thanks for Your grace, mercy and love. Amen.įather, thank You for sending Your son, Jesus Christ, to die in our place and to pay the price for our sins. We ask all of these things in praise and adoration of You. Fill our hearts with your love, fill our words and conversations with truth and grace. ![]() Be a lamp unto our feet and a light unto our path. We come before you as we meet and declare our dependence on you. Thank you for loving each of us and for calling us to walk with you.
